Overview
This four-month certificate program develops the knowledge and technical skills required for entry-level work as a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician. It is delivered full-time at the Notre Dame Campus with a January intake. Coursework covers the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical devices and instruments used in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The program includes a 240-hour practicum placement giving students applied experience in a clinical reprocessing environment. Before the practicum, students must provide proof of required immunizations, a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Level C certification, N95 mask fit testing, and criminal record and vulnerable sector checks. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in hospital sterile processing and medical device reprocessing departments.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires proof of Grade 12 graduation or final-year enrolment, with official final grades submitted by the program's stated deadline. Applicants who completed three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the US, or an ELR-exempt country in English meet the language requirement; others must submit one of RRC Polytech's approved certificate-level assessments, dated within two years of application: IELTS Academic (overall 6.0, no band below 5.5), CAEL (overall band 60), PTE (overall 54, minimum 50 per skill), Duolingo (115 or above, minimum 95 per section), or TOEFL iBT (4.0 overall, minimum 3.5 per component). An Applicant Declaration for Check Documents form is required, along with proof of required immunizations, a current criminal record and vulnerable sector check, and a Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) session before the program's clinical practicum.
