Overview
This blended certificate, taught one nine-week course at a time, gives professionals across sectors graduate-level grounding in social and environmental innovation, applying it to create value within their own organizations and communities. Its three courses (Foundation of Corporate Social Innovation, Design Thinking for Social Innovation, and Measuring and Scaling Social Impact) each run about nine weeks at 10 to 15 hours of work per week, and the program opens with a required non-credit course on academic integrity. Students complete a one-week residency either on campus at Mount Royal University in Calgary or fully online, with the on-campus option held at MRU's Lincoln Park Campus and built around interactive classes, workshops, and team-based applied projects. Two of the certificate's courses can also be taken as electives toward a related graduate program, with credits transferring into further certificates, diplomas, or degrees.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree or a graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, normally with at least two years of relevant full-time experience in leadership, management, communication, training, marketing or consultant roles; the programme page states no separate minimum GPA. Flexible admission is available to applicants with at least five years of extensive relevant work experience and some post-secondary education. The programme page defers non-native English speakers to Royal Roads' institution-wide requirement: for graduate-level entry, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum of 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants must submit a completed application with fee, official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, a one-page personal statement on career motivation, a detailed résumé emphasising the past ten years, two reference letters, and, where applicable, proof of permanent residency status.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
