Program details
Overview
Delivered through the Beedie School of Business, this certificate builds sustainability leadership skills for current and aspiring managers. The 12-unit, three-term program anchors on two core courses -- BUS 716 Sustainability, which examines how organizations are reshaping their business models, and BUS 567 Embedding Sustainability into Strategy, which focuses on operationalizing sustainability goals -- then rounds out with six elective units chosen from BUS 568 Being in Good Relations with Indigenous Peoples, BUS 571 Sustainable Value Chains, BUS 573 Responsible Marketing, BUS 574 Strategy for Nonprofit and Public Sector, BUS 576 Responsible Innovation, and BUS 721 Special Topics in Business Administration. The elective slate lets students tilt the certificate toward Indigenous relations, supply-chain sustainability, marketing ethics, or nonprofit strategy depending on which two courses they choose, while the two required courses ground every student in the same core sustainability-strategy foundation.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:2.50 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: This certificate has no field-specific prerequisite of its own beyond the University's general admission standard for a graduate certificate under Graduate General Regulation 1.3.4: a bachelor's degree from SFU or an equivalent from a recognized institution, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5/4.33, or at least 2.67/4.33 (B-) on the final 60 undergraduate units, and references supporting the applicant's readiness for advanced study. The certificate is designed to be completed within three terms, and its individual courses carry their own course-level prerequisites (for example BUS 567 requires BUS 716) that govern enrolment rather than admission. Applicants are directed to contact the Beedie School of Business for further detail. No programme-specific English-language test score is published; SFU's general graduate policy of IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 per section) or TOEFL 90 overall (20 per section) applies to non-native English speakers.
