Program details

Overview

Embedded Systems Development is a four-term Ontario College Graduate Certificate covering hardware and software skills for the embedded systems industry. The curriculum combines applied projects and lab work to prepare graduates for careers designing and building embedded hardware and firmware, working across the hardware-software boundary that embedded products depend on. Students can choose an optional one-term co-op work placement in the embedded systems industry in place of the Guided Career Management course, gaining industry experience alongside classroom learning. The program suits students seeking hands-on preparation for roles in embedded systems development, covering both the technical foundations of the field, such as microcontroller programming and circuit-level design, and practical, project-based application of that knowledge in lab and applied-project settings before graduation.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a two- or three-year diploma or a degree in computer engineering/technology, electronics engineering/technology, communications engineering/technology, or another relevant discipline with significant electronics and software development content (such as software engineering, mechanical or mechatronics engineering, or computer science), with an overall average grade of B or above (assessed to Ontario standards). Canadian applicants with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation (e.g. through ICAS or WES), and applicants whose transcripts are not from English-language institutions must demonstrate English language proficiency.
