Overview
This blended certificate combines online study with a single three-week on-campus residency to build communication and education skills for engaging communities on environmental issues. Its three courses (Foundations for Environmental Communication, Deepening Ecological Awareness and Understanding, and Learning Theory and Program Design) run one at a time over 10 to 12 weeks, with a brief break in between and roughly 10 to 15 hours of work per week, and the program opens with a required non-credit course on academic integrity. Graduates finish equipped to find and communicate viable solutions to twenty-first-century challenges, and move into roles spanning communication, policy making, teaching, research, and counselling. Its credits apply directly toward the related 12-month Graduate Diploma or two-year Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication.

Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum GPA of 'B' (3.00/4.33), and normally at least two years of relevant work or volunteer experience; applicants meeting the degree but not the GPA requirement must complete the non-credit Academic Writing and Critical Thinking course with a passing grade. Flexible admission is available with normally six years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, subject to the same writing-course condition. The programme page defers non-native English speakers to Royal Roads' institution-wide requirement: for graduate-level entry, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum of 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking.
