The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician certificate is a 24-week, in-person program at SAIT's Main Campus within the School of Health and Public Safety. It trains students in the decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and handling of sterile supplies and surgical instruments used in hospitals and clinics. Coursework covers instrument cleaning procedures, sterilization equipment operation, sterile storage principles, and infection prevention and control practices, delivered through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory work, and a required clinical practicum that is not necessarily scheduled consecutively with theory coursework. The program prepares graduates for roles processing surgical instruments and medical devices in hospital sterile processing departments and similar clinical settings. It does not currently accept international applicants as standalone applicants and is classified under CIP code 51.1012.
