SAIT's Pre-employment Welding certificate is a 13-week, full-time program that provides foundational skills for entry-level welding positions in Alberta's oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Students learn wire feed welding, joint and weld types, identification of weld faults, and operation of oxyfuel equipment, and develop practical techniques in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Metal Cored Arc Welding (MCAW). The program also covers oxyfuel cutting and safe work practices, combining in-class theory, hands-on labs, and self-guided study. Instruction is delivered by faculty with industry experience, and students gain exposure to current welding technologies, equipment, and industry contacts. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to challenge the written and practical exams for the first-period welding apprenticeship, shortening their path to journeyperson certification. Classes are delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus. This program does not accept international applicants.
