This two-year diploma combines classroom and lab instruction in welding and metal fabrication, delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus and aligned with the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training curriculum for the welding trade. Coursework covers industry-standard welding processes for aluminum, steel, and other metals, interpreting technical drawings, working to welding codes and specifications, and business and job-planning skills for the trade. An optional work-integrated learning placement runs between years one and two. The program offers an alternate route to traditional apprenticeship: graduates are apprenticeship-ready and need only register with an employer to begin accumulating hours toward journeyperson welder certification. Faculty bring real-world industry experience, and students have access to modern welding facilities and equipment alongside networking opportunities with employers. The program accepts international applicants and meets Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility requirements.

All applicants, including those educated in Canada, must demonstrate English language proficiency before admission (SAIT admissions, English Proficiency).
