This two-year diploma prepares students for technical roles in welding inspection, drafting, weld design, and project management, delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus. Coursework covers welding process and procedure development, code and standards competencies for structural steel, piping, vessels, and pipelines, blueprint reading, mechanized welding and robotics, heat treatment and metallurgy, non-destructive examination techniques, and project management and welding economics. The program is accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada, and graduates are eligible for the C.E.T. designation after two years of work experience; SAIT is also recognized as an International Institute of Welding Authorized Training Body, and graduates are eligible for CSA W178.2 Level 1 Welding Inspector certification. Graduates typically move into roles such as welding specialist, manufacturing supervisor, quality control and inspection officer, or technical sales representative across manufacturing, construction, automotive, and aerospace. The program accepts international applicants; its Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility is currently under review.
