This 24-week Certificate of Achievement prepares students to apply infection-prevention principles in the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of reusable patient care equipment. Graduates operate sterilization equipment, inspect and reassemble surgical instruments, and prepare sterile supplies for hospital departments. The program is delivered by distance, with mandatory on-site work-integrated learning consisting of four eight-hour shifts. Intakes run in August, October, and January. Admission requires Grade 12, applicants must be at least 18 years old as of December 31 in their year of admission, and English language proficiency is required. Before starting clinical placements, students must provide current immunization records and a criminal record check, and complete Transfer Lifting Repositioning certification (mandatory for Saskatchewan applicants) and current WHMIS certification. The program is not eligible for the Canada-Saskatchewan student loan program.
