This two-year, 76-week diploma applies scientific principles and analytical laboratory practice to real-world research problems, from food safety to the development of new medicines. Students build hands-on skills in DNA and RNA analysis, laboratory technique and quality practices, chemical handling, and data management, working with microorganisms and other research organisms across a combination of theory, practical exercises, and lab-based coursework. The curriculum progresses from foundational laboratory science toward more specialized bioscience techniques used in research and quality-control settings. The program concludes with a four-week practicum that gives students applied industry experience. It is delivered on campus at the Saskatoon campus, with a single intake each September. Graduates are prepared for laboratory and research support roles in sectors such as food safety, pharmaceuticals, environmental testing, and biotechnology, as well as further study in related science fields.
