This two-year diploma prepares graduates to work with children from birth to age 12 in early learning and child care settings. Coursework covers observation, assessment and documentation; learning through play; supporting children with diverse abilities; and family and community relationships. The program includes four four-week practicums in a variety of early learning and child care programs, alongside course-based work with children at the institution's own campus early learning and child care centres. Completing three specified courses within the program earns a separate Certificate of Achievement along the way. It runs over two 32-week years (64 weeks total) full-time, with an August intake, and is offered on campus at the Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon campuses, or through regional colleges or distance learning. Graduates become eligible to apply for licensing as a Level III Early Childhood Educator in Saskatchewan, qualifying them for supervisory and lead-educator roles in licensed child care centres, preschools and family child care settings.
