Overview
This diploma prepares environmental technologists to apply science and ecology to minimize the impact of human activity on the natural world. Coursework covers environmental impact evaluation and mitigation, environmental monitoring and control, ecology, aquatic chemistry, hydrology and hydrogeology, soil analysis and classification, and solid and liquid waste management. Learning time is split roughly 60% classroom instruction and 40% labs, field camps and project work. The program runs 80 weeks (32 months) across five academic semesters plus three mandatory paid Co-operative Education work terms, delivered full-time on campus with a September intake. Graduates who wish to continue their studies can ladder the diploma into the Bachelor of Applied Management degree at Saskatchewan Polytechnic with two additional years of study, and the program prepares technologists for environmental monitoring, assessment and compliance roles across industry, consulting and government employers.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 with Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30, plus Saskatchewan Polytechnic's institution-wide English Language Requirement (IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 5.0 per band, TOEFL iBT 81 overall with 19 per skill, PTE Academic 63 overall with 50 per component, Duolingo English Test 110, or CAEL 60 overall with 50 per component). Physics 30 or Chemistry 30 is recommended for student success but is not a formal admission requirement. Admission is First Qualified/First Admitted, with applications opening September 1 annually for the September intake.
