The Therapeutic Recreation program is a 71-week Diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic; the on-campus offering at the Saskatoon campus is currently suspended, and the program continues to be delivered online/distance through Continuing Education. Students learn to use recreation as a tool for improving health, functional ability, and quality of life, covering assessment of individual needs, treatment plan development, facilitation techniques, and work as part of a healthcare team, with three practicums providing applied experience. Intakes run every second year, in odd-numbered years, starting in September. Admission requires Grade 12 and meeting Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Proficiency requirement; applicants without standard prerequisites may qualify through ACCUPLACER placement testing. Before practicum placements, students need Advanced Professional Assault Response Training, Transferring Lifting Repositioning certification, N95 mask fit testing, a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search, current immunization records, and WHMIS 2015 GHS certification. Graduates are prepared for roles in recreation therapy across healthcare and community settings.
