Overview
From hair care and equipment upkeep to exploring the latest trends in colour and style, Selkirk College will give you a comprehensive overview while teaching you to build strong workplace and client relationships. Practice your classroom learning with real clients in the salon on the Silver King Campus and in a weekly commercial salon practicums.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires completion of BC Grade 10 or equivalent, such as a GED or ABE Intermediate credential. Mature applicants aged 19 or over who have been out of school for at least a year may be admitted despite some educational gaps if they demonstrate reasonable potential for success. All applicants must complete pre-admission placement tests in reading, writing and math; no IELTS, TOEFL or other English-proficiency score is published. Because the occupation calls for strong interpersonal skills and sustained physical conditioning, Selkirk also expects applicants to be non-allergic to the chemical solutions used in hairstyling and to wear professional clothing, with no jeans, in class and on practicum. Selection prioritizes fully qualified applicants by application-completion date, followed by partially qualified applicants assessed on overall qualifications, and an interview with an instructor may be requested before the program begins. The program runs a single annual Fall intake.
