Overview
Students engage in a variety of classroom and shop activities. They learn theoretical principals of the trade in the classroom and then apply their knowledge in the shop where they master the skills employed in the fabrication of steel structures, vessels, containers and equipment.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires graduation from a BC senior secondary school or equivalent, plus Workplace Math 11 (or Selkirk's AUD Math 46) at 60% or better; employers may require a higher level of math as part of their own hiring policies. Mature applicants 19 years or older who are not secondary-school graduates will still be considered provided they are working toward Grade 10 (including English 10 and Mathematics 10), with Grade 12 preferred. No English-language test score is published. All applicants must complete the College Readiness Tool (CRT), a computerized placement test in reading, writing and mathematics, after submitting their application; basic computer skills are also recommended. An in-person or telephone interview with the School Chair may be required before entry, though results are not used as an admission criterion. A refundable $100 tool deposit is due at program start, and applications are sorted into 'fully qualified' and 'partially qualified' tiers under Selkirk Policy 8611: Admissions.

Application Deadline:Selkirk College's general programmes admit on a rolling, first-qualified-first-admitted basis: applications for Fall 2027 open 1 October 2026, Winter 2028 applications open 1 February 2027, and Spring 2028 applications open 1 June 2027, with no fixed closing date. Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry with its own published timeline for the 2027/28 intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
