Program details

Overview

Each level is a full-time, on-campus program combining classroom sessions, where apprentices learn the theoretical principles of carpentry, with shop sessions, where that knowledge is put into practice to master hands-on skills.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to this level of the Carpentry Apprenticeship requires that applicants already be indentured in a Carpentry apprenticeship with an active work-based apprenticeship sponsor, and that they have successfully completed the preceding level where applicable. Applicants must supply official documentation of their previous level of apprenticeship training, a TWID number or permission from the School Chair, and a completed application form. No academic transcript or English-language test score is required; instead Selkirk assesses physical fitness for the trade, including mobility, lifting, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work at heights and in adverse weather. An interview, in person or by phone, may be requested before admission, though the interview result is not used as a selection criterion. Intakes run in Fall, Winter and Spring, with applicants who arrive after a session fills carried to the next intake or placed on a waitlist.
