Overview
The program teaches aspects of residential, commercial and industrial wiring with a focus on residential. The curriculum follows the Skilled Trades BC, BC Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development guidelines for the first year of the "in class" component of the electrical apprenticeship, which includes installation of electrical equipment in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires graduation from a British Columbia senior secondary school or equivalent, plus Pre-Calculus 11 or Selkirk's AUD Math 50 at a minimum of 60%; some employers require a higher math level as a hiring condition. Mature applicants aged 19 or over who have been out of school for at least a year and lack secondary graduation should typically hold at least Grade 11, including English 11 and Mathematics 11, with Grade 12 preferred, and may still be admitted despite some gaps if they show reasonable potential for success. After applying, all applicants must complete the College Readiness Tool, a computerized placement test in reading, writing and mathematics; no IELTS, TOEFL or other English-proficiency score is published. Basic computer skills are highly recommended, and applicants must be physically fit, with good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, balance and the ability to work at heights and in adverse weather. Fall and Winter intakes are offered, and admitted students pay a refundable $100 tool deposit at the start of the program.

Application Deadline:Selkirk College's general programmes admit on a rolling, first-qualified-first-admitted basis: applications for Fall 2027 open 1 October 2026, Winter 2028 applications open 1 February 2027, and Spring 2028 applications open 1 June 2027, with no fixed closing date. Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry with its own published timeline for the 2027/28 intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
