Overview
Current Hairstylists and students who successfully complete the Foundation Program now have the opportunity to become Red Seal Certified. This would require 150 hours of Level 2 designated training, an employer sponsor and passing the Interprovincial Red Seal exams both written and practical.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to this level requires that applicants already be indentured in a Hairstylist apprenticeship with an active work-based sponsor, and that they have successfully completed the preceding level. All applicants must complete pre-admission placement tests in reading, writing and math; no IELTS, TOEFL or other English-proficiency score is published. Mature applicants aged 19 or over who have been out of school for at least a year may be admitted despite some educational gaps if they show reasonable potential for success through work experience or other evidence. Because the work is physically demanding, applicants need reasonable physical conditioning, and professional attire, with no jeans, is required in class and on practicum placements. The level runs only once every two years at the Silver King campus; a minimum overall grade of 70% is required to receive the credential, which leads to Red Seal certification and requires passing both the written and practical Interprovincial Red Seal exams.
