Overview

International students applying for a PGWP: If you are in a flexible delivery course, you must attend in person as the option to attend online does not apply to you based on IRCC policy. Studying online will impact your PGWP eligibility. Please review the in-person requirements related to PGWP eligibility before choosing your program and course delivery.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: DOMESTIC ACADEMIC ENTRY: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature-applicant status, with a minimum grade of 70% in each of the following: English at Grade 12 C or U (or equivalent); mathematics at Grade 12 C or U, or Grade 11 U or M (or equivalent); biology at Grade 11 C or U (or equivalent); and physics or chemistry at Grade 11 U or Grade 12 C or U (or equivalent). Admission is highly competitive - applicants are ranked on academic strength and only the top-ranked are offered seats. Before clinical practicum you need a completed Clinical Preparedness Permit. Medical side: immunisation records matching the Canadian Immunization Guide for health-care workers, bloodwork showing immune status for hepatitis B, varicella, measles, mumps and rubella, and TB testing or a chest X-ray where required. Non-medical side: a Basic Life Support certificate renewed each year, Standard First Aid valid for four years (online courses are not accepted), a mask fit-test record renewed every two years, and a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening renewed annually. A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening from a recognised police service is required before any clinical, practicum or work placement. An outstanding charge or an unpardoned conviction bars placement, and because placement is needed to progress, Seneca counsels affected students to withdraw. Placements across the Greater Toronto Area can run six, 10 or 12 hours, some starting at 6 a.m., may fall on evenings and weekends, and students arrange their own transport. International applicants must present credentials assessed as equivalent to the Ontario prerequisites above and meet the higher English standard Seneca publishes specifically for Practical Nursing (PND): IELTS Academic 6.5 with no skill under 6.0, PTE Academic 60, CAEL 70 with writing no lower than 60, Duolingo 115-120, Cambridge English 176 with no skill under 169, or TOEFL iBT with no skill under 4.5/6 (21/30). Tests must be less than two years old. Seneca lists this program among the nine it will not give a conditional offer to through the English Language Institute, so an international applicant needs the English score in hand rather than a language-pathway offer.
