At Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto, Canada, Honours Bachelor of Science - Nursing (Bridge) (Hybrid) is offered as a bachelor's degree in Nursing programme. The programme runs for 6 semesters, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 11,054 per semester (CAD 3,177 per semester for local students).
Students who meet the academic requirements take part in a professional practicum across semesters five, six and seven, a once-a-week, twelve-hour shift in a group clinical placement alongside six to eight other students under an on-site Registered Nurse supervisor. Semester eight moves to an integrated professional practicum, a one-on-one placement with an RN preceptor in which students apply skills built up over the programme. This unpaid practicum takes place in settings such as acute care and hospitals, health care centres, treatment centres and long-term care facilities.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: This is a bridge for practising practical nurses, not a secondary-school entry route. You need a recognised Ontario college Practical Nursing diploma finished with a graduating GPA of 75% or better (a 3.5 GPA on Seneca's scale), plus College of Nurses of Ontario registration that is current, in good standing and in the practising class.
Before clinical practicum you need a completed Clinical Preparedness Permit. Medical side: immunisation records matching the Canadian Immunization Guide for health-care workers, bloodwork showing immune status for hepatitis B, varicella, measles, mumps and rubella, and TB testing or a chest X-ray where required. Non-medical side: a Basic Life Support certificate renewed each year, Standard First Aid valid for four years (online courses are not accepted), a mask fit-test record renewed every two years, and a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening renewed annually. A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening from a recognised police service is required before any clinical, practicum or work placement. An outstanding charge or an unpardoned conviction bars placement, and because placement is needed to progress, Seneca counsels affected students to withdraw. Placements sit in agencies across the Greater Toronto Area, can run six, 10 or 12 hours, some starting at 6 a.m., may fall on evenings and weekends, and students provide their own transport.
Because current College of Nurses of Ontario registration is the gate, an applicant educated outside Ontario must already hold it. Where English proficiency has to be evidenced, Seneca's degree-level standard applies: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no skill under 6.0, PTE Academic 60, CAEL 70 with writing no lower than 60, Duolingo 115-120, or TOEFL iBT with no skill under 4.5/6 (21/30), on a test less than two years old.
