The Criminology and Psychology Joint Major leads to a Bachelor of Arts and is offered jointly by the School of Criminology and the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The program explores the relationships between criminology and psychology, combining criminological theory and methods with the study of individual behaviour, cognition, and mental processes relevant to crime, offending, and the justice system. Students are encouraged to consult advisors in both departments while planning their coursework and must satisfy declaration requirements from each side, including specified lower-division courses in criminology and in psychology, before formally declaring the major. The degree requires a minimum of 120 units in total, including at least 45 upper-division units, with additional graduation thresholds set for overall, upper-division, and criminology-specific grade point averages. Graduates are prepared for careers and further study in criminal justice, forensic psychology, policy, and related social science fields.
