Overview

The Environmental Earth Systems program is offered within Simon Fraser University's Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, delivered by the School of Environmental Science in the Faculty of Environment. It examines the earth's natural systems, including landforms, climate, soils, water and the atmosphere, and applies that knowledge to understand and address environmental challenges. The Environmental Science major totals 120 units, including a minimum of 44 upper-division units, together with the university's writing, quantitative and breadth requirements. Students declare their specific stream of study within the major by meeting with an academic advisor or submitting the department's online declaration form. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required both to continue in the program and to graduate, and university and Faculty of Environment regulations apply throughout.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Environmental Earth Systems is one of the streams within Simon Fraser University's Environmental Science Bachelor of Science major, declared with an academic advisor rather than through a separate application. The Environmental Science calendar entry states no stream-specific GPA threshold beyond the major's own standard: 'The minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for continuation and graduation is 2.00', and internal transfer into the major requires 'a CGPA of 2.0 or above ... as well as two of the science courses from the lower division requirements below completed with a final grade of C or above, in separate disciplines.' General direct entry to the Faculty of Science otherwise requires at least five approved academic Grade 12 courses with 70% or better in Language Arts 11/English 12, Pre-Calculus 12, and two of Anatomy and Physiology 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, or Physics 12; English-language proficiency follows SFU's general scale (IELTS Academic 6.5, no band below 6.0).
