Overview
The Education Graduate Certificate asks for a minimum of 12 units across four graduate EDUC courses, all drawn from a single Faculty of Education specialization such as arts education, counselling psychology, educational psychology, educational technology and learning design, mathematics education, or teaching English as an additional language -- the calendar describes this list of cognate areas as illustrative rather than exhaustive, so other Faculty of Education specializations may also qualify. It's built to be finished within four terms and follows the university's standard graduate admission requirements, together with the academic requirements set out in SFU's Graduate General Regulations that apply to every graduate student regardless of program. Students who go on to a Master of Education program can apply up to 15 units earned in the certificate toward that degree, carrying forward the large majority of the certificate's coursework into the full master's credential rather than starting the coursework over.

Admission Requirements: This certificate has no field-specific prerequisite of its own: applicants must satisfy the University's general admission requirements for a graduate certificate under Graduate General Regulation 1.3.4, which asks for a bachelor's degree from SFU or an equivalent from a recognized institution, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5/4.33, or at least 2.67/4.33 (B-) on the final 60 undergraduate units, and references supporting the applicant's readiness for advanced study. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who fall short of these minimums may still be considered where superior scholarly or professional achievement is demonstrated. Admission is granted to this specific credential and program specialization rather than to the Faculty of Education generally; applicants are directed to contact the Faculty of Education for full application detail. No programme-specific English-language test score is published; SFU's general graduate policy of IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 per section) or TOEFL 90 overall (20 per section) applies to non-native English speakers.
