Overview
SFU's Professional Development Program is the Faculty of Education's route to a British Columbia Professional Teaching Certificate, and its French module prepares candidates to teach Core French, French immersion and francophone programs. The 16-month program runs across four terms: foundations of education and schooling, an integration term pairing coursework with an in-school experience and a module placement, upper-division professional coursework, and a full-time supervised practicum. Field experiences are placed across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. The module is taught mainly in French with some material and seminars in English, and candidates are supported by SFU's Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs alongside dedicated bursaries and awards.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This is the French Module of SFU's Professional Development Program (PDP), a bilingual teacher-education route taught mainly in French with some English-language material and seminars, leading toward a B.C. Ministry of Education teaching certificate. The program page states only that French Language Proficiency is one of several admission requirements and that 'all other admission requirements need to be satisfied' without listing them on that page; a Minor in French Education is strongly recommended alongside it. SFU's published French-proficiency scale for teacher-education French streams runs from DELF B1 (Core French/FSL, elementary) through DELF B2 (Core French secondary; French Immersion elementary) to DALF C1 (French Immersion secondary; Programme francophone, both levels), with a passing overall grade of 50% and a minimum per-component score (12/25 for DELF B1 exams from September 2022 onward, 5/25 per component for DELF B2/DALF C1) or equivalency accepted in each case. Candidates complete a 13-week full-time supervised teaching practicum plus in-school field experience as part of the program.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, with one set of dates per applicant type rather than by citizenship. Fall 2027 entry: high-school-route applications open 1 October 2026 and close 31 January 2027, while transfer applications open 1 March 2027 and close 15 April 2027 (Education and Contemporary Arts transfer applicants may apply from 1 October 2026). Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Admission documents are generally due 28 February 2027 (Fall) and offers must be accepted by 1 May. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC dates and portal; SFU publishes no separate international deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
