The joint Master of Arts in Religion is offered by the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba together with the Department of Religion & Culture at The University of Winnipeg, providing advanced interdisciplinary study in religious studies. Course offerings and thesis supervision are available at both universities, and students choose between a Thesis Option combining coursework with a thesis, or a Course Option consisting entirely of coursework. Both streams require students to demonstrate reading knowledge of a second language, normally before the thesis proposal is reviewed in the Thesis Option, and students must have completed coursework in research methodology or complete equivalent training alongside their regular coursework. Graduates receive a joint parchment and may choose to graduate from either participating university. Sample seminar topics include biblical religions, the history of Christian thought, comparative religions, religion and culture, and religion in the modern world. The program runs two years of full-time study and suits students pursuing careers in cultural, political, research, and people-oriented fields such as immigration services, NGOs, publishing, and teaching.
