Program details

Overview

Reframing the Church in Context is a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) concentration at Tyndale Seminary exploring the nature, history, mission and practices of the church as it interacts with a student's diverse contextual experiences and callings, with particular attention to hospitality and service as theological concepts central to the mission of the church. The program comprises 12 courses completed over three years. Students develop a theological understanding of the church and hospitality, reimagine the church as a missional organization within the contemporary Canadian context, and cultivate contextually appropriate creative thinking and communal discernment grounded in community-based ministry and an eschatological vision. Holders of an existing Doctor of Ministry may instead pursue a Post-Doctor of Ministry Certificate in the same concentration, consisting of three courses over three years.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree, or equivalent standing (a master's degree with sufficient breadth and depth of theological, Biblical and ministry-related coursework), a minimum B average, and at least three years of ministry experience following completion of the MDiv. Applications require official transcripts, a current CV or resume, a personal statement of 6 to 8 double-spaced pages, two reference letters, and a letter of endorsement from the person or board to whom the applicant reports.
