Overview
Tyndale University is a private, faith-based Christian university in Toronto, Ontario, situated at the north end of the city near the intersection of Steeles Avenue and Bayview Avenue.
It traces its roots to 1894, when it began as a Bible Training School with 138 students drawn from eight different denominations, and the university says it has never deviated from those interdenominational origins even as it has changed its name several times over the following century to arrive at its current identity as Tyndale University. It is accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security and, for its theological programs, by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.
Academic work is organized into three divisions. The School of Arts & Sciences teaches Tyndale's undergraduate Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Fine Arts programs, spanning subjects such as psychology, business administration, biblical studies and theology, English, social service work and music.
The School of Education offers a Bachelor of Education together with Additional Qualification (AQ/ABQ) courses for practising teachers.
Tyndale Seminary, the university's graduate theological school, grants Graduate Diplomas and Post-Graduate Diplomas as well as the Master of Theological Studies, Master of Arts, Master of Divinity, Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees, with concentrations ranging from pastoral ministry and clinical counselling to indigenous studies and thanatology. Every program across all three schools is taught from an explicitly Christian worldview.
