Program details

Overview

This undergraduate program in computer science leads to a Bachelor's degree awarded by Université de Montréal, delivered as full-time or part-time day courses on the Montreal campus. Coursework builds a foundation in programming, mathematics, software design, data structures, algorithms, databases, and operating systems, with elective options in areas such as machine learning, data science, quantum computing, computer graphics, bioinformatics, cybersecurity, and networking. Students choose among three program orientations: a general stream that adds elective courses in the third year, a cooperative education stream that alternates coursework with three mandatory work terms starting in the second year, and an honours stream that incorporates graduate-level courses and a supervised research project in a departmental laboratory. An accelerated completion option, international exchange opportunities, and a research, community, or international (RECI) pathway are also available. Courses are taught in French. The program suits students drawn to logical problem-solving, software development, and the theoretical foundations of computing, and who want the flexibility to choose between a general education, work-integrated learning, or an early introduction to research before graduate study.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from a Quebec DEC (or equivalent) is offered to three applicant categories: CEGEP graduates, university students who hold a DEC plus at least 12 completed university credits, and candidates with at least 24 university credits or an equivalent non-Quebec credential. Because the programme is capped, admission is competitive on the strength of the academic record alone ("l'excellence du dossier scolaire"): the minimum cote de rendement collegial (cote R) published for the Autumn 2026 cohort was 25.0003, with an average of 29.924 and a maximum of 38.887 among admitted collegial applicants. Instruction is in French, so applicants who did not complete their prior schooling entirely in French must document French proficiency - by passing Quebec's Epreuve uniforme de francais, by completing at least 60 university credits taught in French, or by scoring at least B2 in oral and written comprehension on an accredited French test (DELF, DALF, TCF, etc.) dated within the preceding 24 months. The programme runs full-time over three years (90 credits) or part-time, with General, COOP (three work terms), and Honours tracks available; a favourable decision still requires meeting the French-proficiency deadline by mid-February or mid-March.

Application Details

Start Date: September and January
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to the Universite de Montreal: for fall entry, undergraduate applications from Quebec CEGEP-only candidates close 1 March and from university-enrolled or non-Quebec candidates close 1 February, except Faculty of Music (15 January for all); graduate applications close 1 February. Winter entry closes 1 November (undergraduate) or 1 September (graduate); summer closes 1 April or 1 February. International applicants, whatever extension a programme's domestic deadline may carry, must submit by 1 April (fall), 1 August (winter) or 1 December (summer) to allow time for immigration processing. These are the university-wide default dates for the 2027 entry cycle; UdeM notes each programme's own descriptive sheet takes precedence. None are rolling; each is a fixed cut-off. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
