The Master of Laws, Comparative Common Law option, is a 45-credit graduate program at Universite de Montreal offering specialized training in comparative private law, covering both conflict-of-laws rules and the substantive legal systems of common law jurisdictions. The program prepares graduates to practise in other Canadian provinces and in the United States and addresses legal issues arising from North American economic integration and globalization. It combines mandatory and elective coursework with a directed research project, structured around course blocks that differ depending on the applicant's prior program: graduates of the Juris Doctor in North American Common Law complete Block C, while graduates of other law programs complete Block A. Full-time study requires a minimum of three terms and a maximum of four terms, including one term for completing and revising the directed research work. Courses are delivered on campus in Montreal during the day. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in law or an equivalent qualification and is offered in the Fall term.
