This 45-credit, thesis-based Master's in Biological Sciences trains students to design and conduct original research on biological structures, functions, and interactions. It is offered through a Research in Biology stream, spanning subfields from ecology to molecular biology, and a Quantitative and Computational Biology stream with admissions currently suspended; day courses and optional internships are offered on the Montreal and MIL campuses, full-time or part-time. Students carry out an individual research project under the direction of a confirmed faculty supervisor, culminating in a thesis, with opportunities for international study exchanges. The program guarantees a minimum of 17,500 CAD per year in funding for eligible full-time graduate students. It prepares graduates for further doctoral study or research careers in academic, government, or private-sector settings. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in biology or a related discipline. The program admits students in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a confirmed faculty supervisor: applicants are admissible only if a faculty member agrees to direct their research (the Computational Biology option does not require a supervisor for external candidates). Required documents are a letter of acceptance from the intended research supervisor for the Research in Biology option, a curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation, required only for applicants without a UdeM biology bachelor's degree. Applicants must also satisfy Universite de Montreal's French-language requirement.
