The Doctorate in Psychoeducation (Ph.D.) at Universite de Sherbrooke is a 90-credit research doctorate in the Faculty of Education, offered on the Sherbrooke and Longueuil campuses with admission in fall, winter and summer terms. The programme trains researchers specializing in childhood-to-early-adulthood adaptation difficulties and psychoeducational intervention, developing advanced research and professional skills for critically analyzing theories and empirical studies, designing and managing fundamental or applied research linked to practice settings, and using research findings to improve psychoeducational intervention. Coursework covers theories of adaptation and adaptive capacities, foundations of psychoeducational intervention, research methods, advanced statistical analysis and project management, alongside a thesis project, a comprehensive doctoral examination and a dissertation. Full-time completion takes a minimum of four years and a maximum of seven, with the first two years devoted mainly to coursework and the thesis project. Research is anchored in the Groupe de recherche et d'intervention sur les adaptations sociales de l'enfance (GRISE).
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.20 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: A research-type master's degree in psychoeducation or a closely related field; alternatively, a coursework-type master's in psychoeducation, which may require 3 to 9 credits of preparatory activities, or, exceptionally, a bachelor's degree in psychoeducation plus at least 15 credits completed in a research-type master's programme including a research project, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 on a 4.3 scale. For master's-degree holders, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.3 scale across the bachelor's and master's is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong French proficiency, proven either by exemption or by reaching level C1 (500/699 or higher) across all four skills on a recognized test; a good working knowledge of English is also needed to access scientific literature. An interview may be required, and selection considers academic record, fit between the proposed research theme and the programme, quality of reference letters, and confirmed acceptance by a thesis supervisor.
