Admission Requirements: Entry is competitive and capped at 60 seats in the fall term only (no winter intake). Direct entry is via a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) or equivalent, ranked on the academic cote de rendement (cote R); applicants may alternatively qualify on relevant journalism experience (research, writing, reporting or interviewing in radio, television, print or new media, minimum age 21), on at least five completed university courses (15 credits), or on a diploma earned outside Quebec after at least 13 years of schooling. Every base is pre-selected on its own criterion and then invited to a final interview with a faculty member and a graduating student, testing the candidate's current-affairs knowledge, general culture, social interests and understanding of journalism's role in society. All applicants must prove written French proficiency through the DEC's uniform French exam, the Quebec ministry's written test, or UQAM's own written French test; francophone-university graduates are exempt.
