Program details

Overview

This Ph.D. program in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences trains highly qualified graduates for strategic, multidisciplinary sectors of the Earth and atmospheric sciences, studying the geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere and their interactions through both retrospective approaches, such as lithosphere evolution and paleoceanography, and predictive approaches such as modelling. Students specialize in fields including internal geodynamics and geotectonics, external geodynamics and paleoclimates, petrology, geochemistry, geochronology and biogeochemistry, atmospheric sciences and climate modelling and meteorology, mineral resources and ore deposits, and environmental geology, hydrogeology and geomechanics. The 90-credit program leads graduates toward careers as researchers, professors, or consultants in natural resources, land-use planning, global change, and natural hazard prediction. Full-time study takes three years and part-time study five years, with courses offered during the day and occasionally on weekends, and admission is continuous throughout the year.
