The Master's in Career Counseling (Counseling de carrière) at Université du Québec à Montréal trains orientation counsellors to work in education, employability and public and parapublic employment services, health, insurance and vocational rehabilitation settings, as well as consulting firms and organizations. The program is offered through two profiles: an intervention profile (M.Ed.), built around group-based coursework and direct, supervised counselling practice, and a research-intervention profile (M.A.) for students who wish to combine intervention expertise with research training in career counselling. The intervention profile totals 45 credits (36 for holders of an honours bachelor's degree) and the research-intervention profile totals 48 credits (39 for honours graduates), both completed over a nominal six terms full-time or twelve terms part-time, with classes offered in the evening and on weekends. The program is contingent, admitting 30 students per year, at the fall term only. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in career development or orientation from a Quebec university, completed with a cumulative average of at least 3.0 on a 4.3 scale; candidates with an average of at least 2.7 and relevant professional experience may also be considered.
