BA/BS in Biology is a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences programme offered by Université du Québec à Rimouski in Rimouski, Canada. The programme runs for 3 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 12,276 per semester (CAD 1,911 per semester for local students).
This Bachelor of Science in Biology provides broad training across botany, zoology, ecology, microbiology, physiology and biochemistry, with laboratory and field work forming a large share of coursework. The 90-credit program is typically completed over six trimesters full-time, with part-time study also available, at the Rimouski campus. Students choose a general, multidisciplinary path or specialize in one of four concentrations: fauna and habitats, ecology, organism functioning and evolution, or marine sciences. An honors profile combining a research thesis is open to students meeting a minimum grade requirement. Applied experience can come through summer work-study positions, faculty-supervised research projects, or a dedicated biology internship course. The curriculum suits students aiming for further graduate study in the biological or environmental sciences, as well as those seeking hands-on preparation for laboratory, field research, conservation, or environmental-management roles. Admission runs through a single autumn intake with limited places for applicants from college programs. The emphasis on direct laboratory and field experience distinguishes the program from more lecture-based biology degrees, giving graduates practical exposure to the methods used in ecological and biomedical research settings alongside the theoretical foundation across the discipline's core subfields.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants from Quebec CEGEP need a Diplôme d'études collégiales with a minimum R-score of 23, having completed Biology 101-SN1, Chemistry 202-SN1 and 202-SN2, Mathematics 201-SN2 and 201-SN3, and two of Physics 203-SN1, 203-SN2 or 203-SN3; those with an R-score of 22-23 must submit a letter of motivation about biology studies and may need remedial courses at a minimum 2.3/4.3 average. University-credit applicants need five completed university courses (15 credits) in engineering or the pure or applied sciences with a cumulative average of at least 2.3/4.3, including equivalent math, chemistry and biology coursework. Holders of a French baccalauréat need a cumulative average of 14/20 plus specialised courses in life sciences, physics-chemistry and mathematics. All applicants must meet UQAR's French Language Mastery Policy; foreign-diploma holders who cannot present a qualifying credential must pass an accepted French test (TEF 460, TCF 460 or Bright Language 3.5 across written comprehension, oral comprehension and written expression) or sit the university's own French exam after admission. The program is enrollment-capped, with a fall application deadline of March 1.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:UQAR divides its academic year into fall, winter and summer trimesters; most programmes admit for fall and several also for winter or summer, and for non-contingented programmes an application can be filed at any time up to the start of term, making admission effectively rolling, while contingented (quota) programmes each carry their own fixed deadline published on that programme's own page rather than centrally. UQAR applies this same timeline to Canadian and international applicants and does not publish a separate blanket international closing date; international candidates must still secure a Certificat d'acceptation du Quebec and a study permit before arriving, and must upload supporting documents within six weeks of starting an application or the file is closed, so early application is strongly recommended. Admission is therefore rolling except where a specific programme is contingented. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
