This graduate diploma (DESS) in nursing sciences is a 30-credit, second-cycle program offered jointly by UQAT, UQTR, UQAC, UQAR and UQO within the Universite du Quebec network. It trains registered nurses to build an in-depth, research-based understanding of the discipline and to critically examine complex health problems and emerging care practices. Core courses cover the epistemology and theoretical foundations of nursing science, research and statistics for advanced practice, strategies for optimizing care quality, family health, and issues in advanced nursing practice, along with either a supervised practicum-based intervention project or a course in program development and evaluation. Students complete 9 elective credits chosen from courses such as community and public health nursing, critical care, long-term care, adult and pediatric pathophysiology, mental health and psychopathology, intercultural approaches, and perinatal family practice. Most courses are delivered through synchronous distance learning by videoconference, while the practicum course requires attendance at a clinical site. The program can be completed part-time, over a maximum of 10 consecutive sessions including summers, or full-time where course scheduling permits.
