Overview

This graduate diploma, offered jointly across the Universite du Quebec network (UQTR, UQAC, UQAR, UQO and UQAT), trains registered nurses for advanced practice as nurse practitioners specializing in mental health. The 30-credit, three-term program builds clinical judgment for developing integrated treatment plans for people with mental disorders, grounded in nursing theory, ethics and law, and evidence-based practice. Courses cover the epistemological foundations of nursing science, the advanced-practice nurse role, integrated approaches to psychopathology and mental health, psychopharmacology and biological treatments, assessment of mental disorders and co-occurring conditions, advanced clinical evaluation, therapeutic interventions, and advanced practice with pediatric and adolescent populations, preparing graduates to exercise the expanded scope of practice under section 36.1 of Quebec's Nurses Act and to take on clinical, transformational and policy leadership roles.
