Overview
This Honors program in Biological Sciences provides a broad grounding in the life sciences, covering animal, plant, and human biology, with flexibility to customize coursework and program direction. It is one of the University of Alberta's Bachelor of Science with Honors degrees, offered by the Faculty of Science, and is also available as a BSc Major. The Honors track embeds a research thesis project and requires students to maintain a higher academic standard than the Major program; a minor from the Faculty of Arts, Native Studies, Business, or Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences may be added, though a double major is not available. Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school (or equivalent) requires five Grade 12 courses: English Language Arts 30-1; Mathematics 30-1; two of Chemistry 30, Physics 30, Biology 30, Computing Science 30 (Advanced), or Mathematics 31; and one further course from Fine Arts, Humanities, Languages other than English, or Math/Sciences. This subject area also requires Biology 30 and Chemistry 30 as a prerequisite before registering in program courses. The minimum average to apply to the BSc Honors program is 80%; meeting it does not guarantee admission, since places are allocated by a competitive average that varies by year. Applicants whose primary language is not English must meet the university's English Language Proficiency requirement. Admission is offered for the Fall (September) term only.
