Program details

Overview

Classical and Modern Cultures (CMC) is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) major at the University of Guelph examining how culture -- the beliefs, traditions, and values of a group of people -- has developed from ancient times to the present. Students specialize in one of three areas: Classical Studies, Global European Studies, or Languages and Linguistics, and can combine the major with a minor or a second major. The program is four years in length and includes an optional Work Experience (WEX) credit for a paid placement of at least 10 weeks and 350 or more hours. Graduates pursue careers such as public relations specialist, embassy officer, museum curator, foreign service officer, and human resources roles. The program also offers guaranteed postgraduate admission pathways to master's programs at the University of Bristol and at Guelph itself for students who complete the four-year degree.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Classical and Modern Cultures (CMC) Bachelor of Arts (BA) follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from the top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Guelph does not publish fixed minimum cut-offs; year-to-year cut-offs are set by the quality and quantity of applications received and the space available in the program, and the university's own estimated ranges do not guarantee an offer of admission. All offers remain conditional on completing the OSSD (or equivalent), the required six courses, and achieving the minimum final average stated in the offer.
