Program details
Overview
Geography is a Bachelor of Arts major at the University of Guelph examining the relationship between human societies and the environment, including topics such as community resilience and global climate change. Coursework combines classroom study with fieldwork and laboratory work across the discipline's human, physical, and environmental sub-fields. Introductory 1000-level courses provide a foundation for the program and are prerequisites, or strongly recommended, for many 2000-level courses, which in turn serve as prerequisites for corresponding 3000- and 4000-level advanced courses. The department also offers related programs, including a B.A. Honours in Environmental Governance, a B.Sc. Honours in Environmental Geomatics, and a B.Sc.Env. Honours in Environment and Resource Management. An optional five-year co-operative education stream adds paid work terms with a range of employers to the standard four-year degree. Graduates apply geographic analysis and fieldwork skills to careers in urban and environmental planning, resource management, government policy, and related research and consulting roles.
