Overview
The Master of Arts in Public Issues Anthropology examines the human dimensions of contemporary social issues through ethnographic methods, critical analysis, and public engagement, combining theory, research methods, and hands-on fieldwork. Students undertake fieldwork and community partnership projects, preparing for careers in research, policy, advocacy, education, and community development. The program draws on both biological and social-cultural anthropological perspectives, and requires applicants to have prior coursework spanning both areas. The program offers a coursework stream, completed over 12 months full-time, and a thesis stream, completed over 24 months full-time. Applicants require a four-year honours bachelor's degree with a minimum B+ (77-79%) average in the last two years of study, including at least five anthropology courses covering both biological and social/cultural anthropology.
