Overview
Animal Health Technology (145.D0) is a three-year, full-time career Diploma of Collegial Studies at Vanier College covering veterinary nursing, surgery, diagnostic imaging, animal husbandry, pharmacology, and nutrition as applied to domesticated, laboratory, exotic, and farm animals. Classroom instruction in medical and veterinary theory is combined with hands-on laboratory work using live animals in the college's on-site clinic, where students practise radiography, sample collection and analysis, and surgical preparation. A mandatory internship forms the program's capstone, and students can also opt into a Work-Study stream offering two paid summer placements; an international internship placement is available through a partnership with the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia. The program suits students who want to combine an interest in medicine with a passion for animals, whether their goal is clinical veterinary support work, laboratory or biomedical research, or animal care more broadly. Graduates go on to roles in veterinary practices, biomedical research, animal shelters, pharmaceutical companies, wildlife rehabilitation, and zoology-related fields.

Admission Requirements: In addition to Vanier's college-wide requirements: Math CST 563-404/414; Science - ST 555 404/444 and STE 558 404, or ATS 557 406/416 and STE 558 402 (or cégep Physical Science 105-003-RE); a letter of intent; and a possible interview (held in person in March). Chemistry 504 (or equivalent) and TS/SN Math 406/426 (or equivalent) are highly recommended - related experience and recommended courses are both considered in selection. Not a direct pathway into veterinary school, though university transfer is possible with an academic advisor's guidance.

For Winter 2027, applications opened 15 September 2026, Round 1 closes 1 November 2026 and Round 2 closes 25 November 2026, with unfilled seats carried forward. SRAM has not yet posted Fall 2027 domestic dates. Internationally, SRAM's Fall 2027 window runs 15 March 2026 to 14 March 2027; its next window (Winter 2028) runs 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027. Admission is rolling by round, not a single fixed date. Vanier's own international-applicants page confirms international students use the same SRAM system as domestic ones, bound by the same round deadlines. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
