Overview

Electrical Engineering Technology: Automation and Controls (243.D0) is a three-year career Diploma of Collegial Studies at Vanier College preparing students for work in industrial automation and process control. The curriculum covers the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments used in industrial control systems, including sensors, motors, programmable logic controllers, drive systems, and robotics, organized around three specialization areas: factory automation, process control, and the industrial Internet of Things. Learning is hands-on throughout, and students can pursue a work-study option that includes paid internships in industry, building direct experience alongside the classroom and lab work. The program page cites a job-placement rate above 90 percent for graduates, who go on to work in sectors such as mining, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, forestry, and energy. Admission depends on specific secondary-level mathematics and science courses. It suits students interested in industrial automation, robotics, and instrumentation who want a technical, equipment-focused program leading toward roles in mechatronics and automation, including paths to industry certification.
