Overview

Music Education is a Bachelor of Music with Honours program offered by Western University's Don Wright Faculty of Music, intended for students who plan to pursue Ontario teacher certification at the Honours Specialist level. Students complete a common first year shared with other Bachelor of Music programs, then progress through years two to four, choosing from a wide range of music electives to build either a comprehensive program of study or a specialization in elementary or secondary school vocal or instrumental music instruction. Admission is based on six approved Grade 12U or M level courses, including English (ENG4U), together with an audition and interview evaluated by the Faculty; proficiency equivalent to Royal Conservatory of Music Level 6 in piano and Level 6 in music theory is strongly recommended before entry. Graduates receive guaranteed admission to Western's Faculty of Education, supporting a direct pathway into teacher training after completing the four-year degree.
