Popular Music Studies is a major within Western University's Bachelor of Music program, entered on the recommendation of the Faculty following an interview. Students must complete first-year requirements with a minimum mark of 60% in each of Music 1649A/B, Music 1651A/B, Music 1710F/G (or the combination of Music 1639U and Music 1641U), and Music 1730A/B, together with 1.0 further course chosen from a designated list of English, Film Studies or World Literatures and Cultures options. The module itself comprises 6.0 courses in total, continuing the music theory, history and performance-practice foundation built in first year into second-, third- and fourth-year study. As a major within the Bachelor of Music degree, the programme combines core music coursework with a humanities elective, giving students a foundation in the study of popular music alongside the broader Bachelor of Music curriculum.

Admission Requirements: Recommendation of the Faculty on the basis of an interview. Completion of first-year requirements, including a mark of at least 60% in each of Music 1649A/B, Music 1651A/B, Music 1710F/G (or Music 1639U and Music 1641U), Music 1730A/B, and 1.0 course from English 1020-1999, Film Studies 1020E, Film Studies 1022, or World Literatures and Cultures 1030.
