The Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program is offered through the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing in Western University's Faculty of Health Sciences. The program contains seven courses: six foundational courses (Nursing 4490Y, 4491Y, 4403A/4404B, and 4405A/4406B), which may be taken in any order, followed by Nursing 4497, a seminar and supervised clinical practice course. Full-time students complete the program in twelve months (three terms); part-time students have up to three years from their date of registration in the first course. Components of individual courses are offered via distance education where feasible, without compromising the quality of the learning experience. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing from an Ontario university or equivalent, a current certificate of registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and the equivalent of two years of full-time nursing practice within the past five years. Preference is given to candidates with continuous experience in specified healthcare settings. The application deadline is March 1 for September admission.
