Medieval and Medievalism Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University examines the medieval period and its continuing influence on later culture, from politics and religion to literature, film, television and video games. The program draws on history, English, religion and culture, and languages departments to give students an interdisciplinary view of medieval Europe and its reception in later eras. Students study primary medieval texts and artifacts alongside their modern reinterpretations and adaptations in popular culture. As a Bachelor of Arts in Combination, the program must be paired with a second BA major, allowing students to connect medieval studies with another discipline of their choice. The four-year Honours program is delivered on campus at Laurier's Waterloo campus, with some students able to accelerate completion to three years. Coursework develops research, textual analysis and critical writing skills applicable to further graduate study, teaching, archival and museum work, publishing, and other humanities-related careers requiring strong analytical and communication abilities.
