Every information technology rests on translating real problems into mathematical form as step-by-step procedures. Computer science builds and applies such procedures for nearly all technical devices. Its theoretical branch asks how complicated a solution has to be, the practical branch designs methods and software, the technical branch looks at the properties of hardware, and the applied branch concerns putting it all to use.
This bachelor's course takes a research-minded approach, placing considerable weight on formal, mathematical and systematic reasoning. Specialising can begin early, with possible areas including algorithms, autonomous intelligent systems, graphics, image recognition, visualisation, data science, security of networked systems, and machine learning with artificial intelligence.
The Bachelor of Science lasts six semesters, is taught in German and starts in winter. A local selection limit applies, with places distributed through the national DoSV platform.
