Overview

This 1.5-year master's programme trains lawyers grounded in the Western legal tradition to defend human rights and freedoms in Belarus and the wider region, applying international law toward the maintenance of peace and security and the development of democratic, rule-of-law institutions in the post-Soviet space. Students study the latest theories of international law and its historical development, the functioning problems of international governmental organisations, and current security-studies theories applied to the practice of international courts and the European Court of Human Rights. Learning outcomes include identifying problems of international legal regulation and proposing solutions through integrated assessment of different legal doctrines, independently drafting legislation and reasoning the need for its adoption, and representing and coordinating the legal interests of individuals and organisations, consistent with professional ethics. Students also develop skills in modelling decision-making strategies that account for their impact on international society, and in working within international and interdisciplinary legal teams while defending cultural diversity and the rule of law.
